The Fruit of Service is Peace
When I help older people, like holding a door, carrying groceries, or just sitting and listening to their stories, it makes me feel calm and grounded. As a child, you don’t always realize it, but they carry so much life, wisdom, and loneliness too. Helping them feels like slowing down in a world that’s always rushing.
It makes me feel useful in a gentle way, not because I have to help, but because I get to. There’s a warmth in knowing that a small act—offering an arm, a smile, a few minutes—can make someone feel seen and respected. It also teaches gratitude. Seeing how much they’ve lived makes me appreciate my own time, my energy, and the people who once cared for me when I was little.
Helping older people reminds me that care goes in circles. One day, roles reverse—but kindness always stays the same. 💛
